In this 3-hour one-on-one session with woodworker Stephen Parsons, you will learn the basics of carving (or whittling) and will develop the skills to carve a small wizard or Santa Claus decoration. The lesson will include a brief safety overview, a review of basic carving tools and techniques, and a step-by-step demonstration and practice session that will give you the skill to whittle a wizard or Santa decoration from a small block of wood. You’ll take home a couple of complete (or partially complete) decorations and a handout containing the step-by-step instructions, design ideas, and information on carving tools, materials and references. Classes are held either at the ChezCraft workshop or at Eastern Shores Gallery in Jeddore weeknights and weekends. Note: woodworking usually involves use of sharp tools or equipment that may present a risk of injury. This workshop will cover basic safety concepts, but you will be required to sign a waiver releasing ChezCraft from any liability for injury sustained during the class.
