This class offers an accessible entry point into sashiko (stab stitching) and boro (scraps, rags) through making of a stitched panel, which can stand alone as a wall hanging to form the basis for another project.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of how sashiko stitching and boro layering add strength, texture, and story to cloth. Working on a flat panel allows you to focus on stitch rhythm, pattern placement, and composition without the pressure of garment repair or construction.
The finished panel can remain a standalone textile or become the foundation for future projects. Time will be spent stitching, experimenting, and discussing how panels translate into functional or decorative objects. NOTE some participants might not complete the panel during the session and might choose to take more time to add additional detail or more complex patterns.
No prior sashiko experience required. This class is suitable for beginners and returning stitchers alike.
